| Using Multi-media Tools In The Classroom Teachers had the opportunity to peek into the exciting possibilities of multi-media during the Computer Users Group seminar held on 2 August 1997 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
The seminar, which focused on the application of multi-media tools for teaching, saw academic staff from the Centre For Computer Studies (CCS) of Ngee Ann Polytechnic, share with participants some of their teaching experiences in the application of software tools in lesson delivery. Mr Agus Rahardja, teaching associate with CCS, stressed the importance of using multi-media technology to engage pupils in the classroom and encourage concept understanding. He showed the participants two CD-ROMs, commenting on their design, impact and how they could be redesigned to enhance learning.
Providing the guidelines in the use of Powerpoint for presentation was Ms Ng Poh Oon, teaching associate with CCS. Participants were treated to rich audio, video, visual components and images that they could easily be incorporated in presentations to help capture pupils attention. Participants also discovered how Internet technologies, especially the World-Wide Web, could be used to facilitate teaching and learning. Ms Lai Siet Leng, teaching associate with CCS, gave a presentation on how teachers can deliver, assimilate the knowledge and reinforce the teaching of the subject module through the Web in order to create a conducive learning environment for pupils. |
