TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTATION CEREMONY 2002

 

          The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be holding its Teaching Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on Saturday, 3 August 2002 at 2.30 pm at the Grand Ballroom Level 4, Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. The Guest-of-Honour for the ceremony is the Minister for Education & Second Minister for Defence, RAdm (NS) Teo Chee Hean.

2        A total of 241 awards will be given this year. The breakdown is as follows :

* The Local Merit Scholarship (LMS) was administered by PSC before Year 2002. The administration was delegated to MOE with effect from the Year 2002 Scholarship Exercise.

Annex

TYPES OF TEACHING SCHOLARSHIPS/ AWARDS

The Public Service Commission (PSC) offers the following teaching scholarships for undergraduate studies:-

(a) Overseas Merit Scholarship (OMS)
(b) Local-Overseas Merit Scholarship (L-OMS)
(c) Singapore Government Scholarship (SGS)

Overseas Merit Scholarship (OMS)

Singapore Citizens or PRs

Have outstanding GCE 'O' & 'A' Level results with at least 3 'A' Level distinctions or equivalent qualifications

Have a good Co-Curricular Activities record

Have leadership potential

Attempt SAT I
Science Stream:

Offer at least 4 'A' Level subjects and attempt 2 'S' papers
Arts Stream:

Offer at least 3 'A' Level & 1 'AO' Level subjects and attempt at least 1 'S' paper.

Arts candidates who offer only 3 'A' Level subjects can still be considered provided they obtain passes in 2 'S' papers.

Maintenance allowance

Tuition fee & other approved fees

Clothing allowance

Return economy class airfare

Excess baggage allowance

'A' level or Polytechnic Diploma holders who qualify for entry into NUS based on NUS' admission criteria

NUS Science or Arts undergraduates going on to Year 2 or 3 in the new academic year

NUS / NTU Arts, Science or Engineering undergraduates pursuing Honours/AMP or graduating from Honours/AMP

Maintenance allowance of $4000 per annum

Tuition fees and other approved fees (hostel fees not included)

Sponsorship for NUS Overseas Student Exchange Programme (if selected by NUS)

Those going on to Honours/AMP or graduating from Honours/AMP will receive $6000 as back-payment of 1 year's tuition fees, payable in 2 tranches. Those pursuing Honours in a teaching subject will receive maintenance allowance of $4000 per annum and tuition fees.
